3 SEO Trends You Can’t Ignore

Marketing Pilgrim posted an interesting infographic today titled “5 obvious SEO trends for 2014 you’re probably ignoring anyway.” I agree with

  • These are obvious trends
  • And that you are probably ignoring them, but …

you shouldn’t be.

I want to focus on three of these trends. I think they are obvious, and I’ve discussed each of them in the past. Today I’m going to go light but mention them anyway.

  1. Mobile SEO – This includes optimization for smartphones and tablets. People are increasingly shopping on their handheld devices. The first thing you need to do is make sure your website design is responsive. After that, pursue those handheld users.
  2. Location-based search – This is tied to mobile search. When 56% of mobile users search the Internet using their mobile browsers, that’s a market you can’t ignore. But you also have to think beyond the mobile browser market. Think of location-based services like Instagram.
  3. Google Authorship – Google Authorship is one of the most important developments of the future that you should be thinking about now. Get yourself a Google+ profile and start posting to it. This alone will increase your authorship status in Google, and I think Google Authorship is going to become even more important in the future. If you don’t get on this bandwagon now, you’ll fall way behind.

SEO is no longer about keywords. It’s about brand positioning and these three SEO trends will help you position your brand more effectively.
